Greetings from Gertrude, your new Volunteer Co-ordinator. 

I wanted to keep this message brief and just write:  Canberra Musicians Club kicks arse, so why not get off yours?  But certain other members of the club thought that it might be taken the wrong way, and I should instead concentrate on the benefits of volunteering.  So much for elegant simplicity...

To keep it entertaining, I've chosen the form of the fairy tale.

Once upon a time there was a loose collection of musical connoisseurs who thought that original Canberra music should be nurtured and encouraged.  They banded together and, with their various talents, formed a powerful cabal called the Canberra Musicians Club that conjured such magical musical assistance as cheap public liability insurance, new venues and events, door staff and bar staff and those who would lend their sound gear and technical expertise for nothing or next to nothing.  And the people praised them and were entertained. 

Some of those who answered the call for help came to be known as volunteers, and, so long as they continued to use their super-powers in the fight against boring music, they enjoyed the following benefits:

• free entry to events of giant incredible grooviness, or 'gigs' as they came to be known.

• discounted drinks.

• satisfaction of mutual obligations for those volunteers in thrall to a dark wizard known as Centrelink.

• the opportunity to meet new people who were enchanted by the glow of selflessness that shone from within them.

As the CMC grew it became bigger and better so the call for volunteers continued to go out.  Many people who had never tried it before and secretly thought it might difficult or tedious were transformed into happy, useful creatures who enjoyed the incalculable riches of volunteering, and they all lived happily ever after.  The end.
